Who am I? That's a Secret I'd Never Tell...Just Kidding!

Hi all! My name is Renée (she/her)!

As the name of this blog suggests, I am in fact a proud dog mom of three dogs and a cat who acts like a dog.

Enola (pictured) is a 5-year-old purebred pitbull--a fact we just recently learned courtesy of a Wisdom Panel DNA test. She adores sunbathing and carrots to no end! Reggie (pictured) is a 3-year-old husky/border collie who simply loves barking, running fast, and his lobster toy. Monty (pictured) is out most recent adoptee, a 4-month-old Aussie/Pitbull who loves giving wet willies with his tongue and jumping on the backs of his older siblings. Poe (pictured) is a four-year-old large, fluffy black cat whose favorite things are food and playing fetch with hair ties.

I am an (almost) 24-year-old graduate student pursuing my master's in Library and Information Science with a concentration in Digital Curation at Dominican University in Illinois. I am currently living and working in Louisville, Kentucky where I went to Bellarmine University for my Bachelor's Degree in Arts Administration.

I work as a curatorial assistant at Moremen Gallery, a contemporary art gallery located in Downtown Louisville. There, I do everything from talking with artists/doing studio visits to writing press releases and artist catalogs to patching holes and hanging the actual artwork. I also just so happen to run the gallery's social media pages!

I also work part-time at PG&J's Dog Park Bar as a Barkranger (aka park ranger)//Social Media Assistant. This bar combines the best elements of a dog park and a bar--it is a place for dogs to socialize and play off-leash, but also a clean and welcoming place for their humans to have fun, hang out, and/or even come and work remotely.

I've been working with social media platforms like Instagram and Facebook casually since I was about 13. In the last few years, I've gained a lot of knowledge about social media trends, hashtags, and posting resources since headlining and working with social media professionals in my field as a curatorial assistant and the Dog Bar. However, other than those two social media platforms, my knowledge of other platforms is rather limited. This is my first time using a blogging format both personally and professionally. I tend to have a love/hate relationship with social media as I have found myself doomscrolling and it affects my mental health to a degree. However, used in healthy proportions and for healthy reasons, I believe social media can be a great asset for connecting people.

  1. Hi Renée,
I also started working with Facebook and Instagram as my first social media accounts later in my teenage years. The majority of my pictures are of my cats. I’ve seen posts and articles about the “correct” times to post to get the most engagement, and my thinking was, why is it only Eastern Standard or Pacific Standard time? I don’t want to do the math to post something. But I’m not in charge of a business account that needs views to get its products across, so those messages about posting times are not geared toward me. I only know two things about hashtags and posting, which I use regularly. Camel Case in Hashtags allows individuals using screen readers to read the words correctly. The other is adding alt text to my images so others with vision issues know what the image is about.

  2. Hello Renée! I'm not sure why it won't let me comment under my name (still getting use to blogging!) I am Kira. I love your pictures it is always fun to see fur friends. I really like that you included your pronouns. That is one social media trend I am seeing more and more and I love it! I think it is a simple way to help people respect your identity and also show your identity (I use "you" in the broadness of everyone who uses social media). I really like following trends too and seeing how and what trends. What is popular on social media is popular with people and that can be an interesting reflection of our society. I am excited to learn with you this semester!

  4. Hi there! It's so great to meet another fellow pet lover and aspiring librarian! Your fur babies sound absolutely adorable, each with their own unique personalities and quirks. Enola, Reggie, Monty, and Poe seem like they bring so much joy and laughter to your life.

Your work in the art gallery and at the dog park bar sounds incredibly fulfilling and exciting. It's wonderful to see how you're able to combine your passion for art and your love for animals into your professional life. Managing social media for both places must keep you on your toes, but it's clear that you have a knack for it!
